The Lehman Avenue Church of Christ started making history in 1953 when the Twelfth Street Church of Christ purchased the lot where our building stands today. Lawrence Hazelip conducted a tent meeting on the vacant lot before
construction of the building began.
The first worship service for the
newly formed Lehman Avenue congregation was on March 8, 1955 with 168 in
attendance. Jim Pence preached for three and a half months as interim
preacher before Roy J. Hearn (1955-1957) became the first full-time minister
for Lehman Avenue. Following the departure of Brother Hearn, several
outstanding men have served as ministers at Lehman Avenue: James Wells
(1958-1961); Joe Cook Van Dyke (1962); Joe Morris (1963-1971); Yarbrough
Leigh (1971-1982); Jack L. Ray (1982-2002). Brother Ray is now retired and
serves as one of our Elders. Garvis Semore served as the pulpit minister for
Lehman Avenue from January 2002 - June 2005. Dale Graham served as pulpit minister
August 2005 - September 2007
We have also
been blessed with outstanding associate ministers: Richard Hendricks (1976);
David Fletcher (1977); Steve Blackman (1978-1980); Bob Raby (1981-1983);
Paul Hodges (1983-2001); Ed Van Hooser (1986-1988); Mike Tanaro (1991);
David Hamilton (1993-2001). Kenny Hart (Mid December 2001- December 31,2003); Drew Crosby

Lehman Avenue in July 2004 - July 2005.
