20 Marks of a Life Lived by Faith

Our theme this year at Lehman Avenue is Living by faith. This theme is based on the words found in Romans 1:17 where Paul quotes from Habakkuk 2:4. When Paul writes, “the righteous shall live by faith,” he is saying those made right with God through the gospel should live their lives faithfully based upon that foundation. How can someone tell if we are living by faith? How can we tell? Are there any tangible signs? Here are some of the marks of a life that is being lived by faith:

• Trusting God to do what man may think cannot be done (Luke 1:37)

• Taking God at His word even when it’s hard to see how He’ll fulfill it (Acts 27:25)

• Caring for orphans, widows, and others who are less fortunate (James 1:27)

• One willing to make whatever sacrifice is necessary to be in Jesus’ presence (Mk. 2:4-5)

• Praying and seeking God’s direction before making decisions (1 Sam. 30:8)

• Getting God’s word into your heart as frequently as you can (Romans 10:17)

• Developing a personality that mirrors the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)

• Trusting in God even in times when you’re greatly afraid (Psalm 56:3; 2 Timothy 1:7)

• Cheerfully and freely contributing to the work of the Lord (2 Corinthians 8:24, 9:6-8)

• Building your life on God’s power rather than the wisdom of man (1 Corinthians 2:5)

• An intense and fervent love for your brothers and sisters in Christ (Ephesians 1:15)

• Boasting only in the cross of Jesus instead of in your own accomplishments (Gal. 6:14)

• Denying self in order to put Jesus and His mission first (Luke 9:23; Gal. 5:16)

• Holding firmly to Christian convictions even when life gets tough (2 Tim. 4:7)

• Focused on laying up treasures in heaven rather than on earth (Matt. 6:19-21)

• Worshipping God in the way he seeks to be worshipped (John 4:23-24)

• Talking about Jesus to others because of the joy He brings to your life (2 Cor. 4:13)

• Regular repenting of sins and acknowledging one’s own short comings (1 John 1:8, 1:10)

• Loving your neighbor like Jesus has loved you (Lev. 19:18; Romans 13:8)

• Looking to Jesus regularly as our example and our hope (Hebrews 12:2)

Let’s keep striving to live lives of faith in 2024!
