A Cross Saved His Life

A Cross Saved His Life

On June 7, 20-year-old Aiden Perry was visiting a friend’s apartment in the Villages, FL, when his friend decided to show him a 40-caliber pistol. His friend accidentally discharged the pistol, striking Aiden in the chest at point-blank range. Thankfully, the bullet hit a cross that Aiden was wearing on a chain. Instead of the bullet going into his heart, the cross caused the bullet to ricochet and changed the path to head toward his left arm. (Read more about the story here https://www.foxnews.com/video/6377071369112.) Aiden and the surgeon that attended to him said that the cross was likely to have saved his life.

If you knew that a cross would save your life, would you hold on to one? If you knew that a cross would save someone you cared about, would you tell them about it? While this story causes us to think, the story of the cross that we read in God’s word is even more powerful, able to save unlimited lives of those who will respond appropriately to its power. I Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” One of my favorite songs says, “O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above to bear it to dark Calvary.”

“So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it some day for a crown.” How have you responded to the cross? Are we sharing the cross with others so Christ can save their eternal lives?
