The Bible describes God as good (Psalm 73:1). If all we had was the Bible’s testimony of God’s goodness, we would have enough evidence to believe it. However, apart from the Bible’s claim, there is evidence in our world of God’s goodness all around us. It is wise for us to regularly pause and consider God’s goodness. Much of what we read in the Bible is trying to motivate us to be good people who perform good works (Titus 3:8, 3:14). However, we must always keep in mind that our goodness is commanded in response to the good God we are serving (Psalm 116:12). When we see how good God has been to us, we will be motivated to be good to Him. Here are a few of the evidences of God’s goodness in our lives:
- Created us in His image (Genesis 1:26–27)
- Rain from heaven, tasty food, and fruitful seasons (Acts 14:17)
- Every good and perfect gift in our lives has come from Him (James 1:17)
- He provides us with things in our lives for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17)
- The salvation brought to us by Jesus (2 Corinthians 9:15)
- His continual love that never ends or changes (Psalm 136:1)
- Loving us when we didn’t love Him (Romans 5:6–8)
- The blessing of the church and the fellowship of each other (Matthew 16:18; Philippians 1:3–5)
- God sends the sun and rain that we need even when we don’t deserve it (Matthew 5:45)
- Our eternal home in heaven is prepared and awaiting our arrival (Colossians 1:5; 1 Peter 1:3–5)
- God takes terrible things and turns them into good things (Romans 8:28)
- All of our sins can be forgiven and forever forgotten (Isaiah 43:25; Hebrews 8:12)
- God answers our prayers (1 John 3:22; 5:14–15)
- Scripture has been preserved for us to read and study (Psalm 19:7–14)
- God’s presence is promised and assured to His children (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5)
The good news for us is our God has been good to us. Let us do our part and be good and faithful to Him!
