In just a short time, our congregation will be embarking on a new opportunity as we move locations to 2700 Cumberland Trace. It reminds me of the new opportunity that faced the Israelites after the death of Moses. They were anticipating a new home in the Promised Land. Notice a few things that were instructed to them.
Be strong and very courageous (Joshua 1:7). This message was the most prominent message in the book of Joshua. We all like our comfort zones, our favorite pew, and sitting by those we know best. New adventures take it out of our comfort zones and require courage as we meet new people, a new community, and a new building.
Remember God’s word (1:8). New opportunities can take our focus away and change priorities. It is important to keep the main thing the main thing in new ventures. God reminded the Israelites to keep His word in their mouths, thoughts, and actions.
Choose men to divide the load and assist with the effort (2:1, 3:3,12, 4:4,5). When there were big tasks to be done, different men were chosen to divide the load and accomplish the tasks. Some were sent to spy Jericho, priests were chosen to carry the ark, and men from each tribe were chosen to take out stones from the Jordan river. As we move into the new building, we have several deacons that are heading up areas of responsibility and different vision groups to accomplish tasks. We will also be adding deacons in the next few weeks to head up additional areas of responsibility. Let us all chip in and assist all of these to accomplish the many things that needs to be done. Offer your assistance before and especially after we move in the new building.
