Thankfully, every Sunday, we notice sounds throughout our assembly – the wonderful sounds of babies and toddlers. I am so glad to hear it! Sunday morning services without the sounds of children are quite sad, and likely indicate a dying congregation. This eldership always wants to encourage our mothers and fathers to keep those children in church! To the young parents: Most of us have been where you are now. We understand and support you. We know it can be a frustrating and tiring work of love, rearing children and attending services, but it is SO very important and worth the effort! Brad Harrub put it this way:
For those mothers out there that need to hear it or need a reminder: Being a strong Christian mother who is busy training your kids IS KINGDOM WORK!! (Probably THE most important Kingdom work!) Just because it’s not listed in the bulletin or is not part of a program does not make it less important. Keep molding and teaching, knowing that your “reward” and acknowledgement may not come from a pulpit, but rather it will come in the form of faithful children who go on to produce even more fruit! Thank you for working so hard for Him, even out of the spotlight! – Brad Harrub
I would add that our fathers are doing a great work for the kingdom when living in a Christ-like fashion, remembering that their role is also so important to God. Proverbs 1:8-9 says “Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.” Proverbs 29:17 states “Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.” And finally, Proverbs 10:1 states, “The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.”
These verses (and many others) show us the great value to our lives and to the kingdom of God when we invest in our children. To all the fathers and mothers out there, thank you! Deut. 4:9-10 “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. So make them known to your children and your children’s children…“
