How to Make the Most of 2023

How to Make the Most of 2023

God in his eternal kindness has granted us another year of life to serve him and one another. While no one knows for sure what this year will bring we can still be prepared to make the most of it. There will be opportunities for each of us to serve God and to glorify him. We should make up our minds ahead of time that we are going to do everything within our power to grow spiritually and to be of use in the kingdom of God. The following list is not meant to be exhaustive but here are a few things we all can do to make the most of 2023:

  • Attend every assembly of the church (Hebrews 10:24-25)
  • Encourage another Christian in some way every day (Hebrews 3:13)
  • Read the Bible daily (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:2)
  • Invite non-Christians to church services regularly (Mark 1:15; John 1:46)
  • Be an active and involved member in one of the congregational vision groups (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
  • Do not go a day without praying (Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  • Step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do something for Jesus you’ve never done before (Philippians 4:13)
  • Serve others expecting nothing in return (Luke 17:10; Galatians 5:13)
  • Give sacrificially to the Lord’s work (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
  • Get to know someone in the congregation you do not know at all or do not know well (John 13:34-35)
  • Forgive others as often as they seek forgiveness from you (Ephesians 4:32)
  • Be present for as many extra-curricular church functions as possible (retreats, singing nights, Equipped, etc., Acts 2:42-47)
  • Invest in the youth of the church (teach a Bible class, assist with VBS or church camp, bring your kids to pew packers, etc., Matthew 19:13-14)
  • Attempt to restore someone who has fallen away from the Lord (James 5:19-20)
  • Maintain a joyful spirit and cultivate the fruit of Spirit in your daily life (Galatians 5:22-23; Philippians 4:4)

These are just a few of the ways we can make the most of 2023. The elders have decided the congregational theme for 2023 is: Engaging Everyone for Eternity. Let us all do our part in being engaged. Let us focus on being the best version of ourselves that we can to the glory of God. As we do these things eternity will be impacted for good; ours and those we come into contact with regularly. While tomorrow is not promised we should be thankful for the additional time God has given each of us to serve him. Let us make the most of it before it’s too late!
